Our goal has always been to breed a solid working dog. We want balanced drives, good nerve, courage and intelligence; while at the same time being able to compete in the conformation ring. We only breed animals that have passed OFA hip certification and will only breed to dogs of merit. Our dogs have successfully shown in conformation, and worked or titled in AKC Competitive Obedience, Schutzhund, Personal Protection, Wheel Chair Assistance, Animal Assisted Therapy, and Search and Rescue. We are proud to say that we have 2 of only 5 Rottweiler’s at the present time certified in Search and Rescue in the United States. With this package in mind it is vital that our dogs can also be reliable family pets. We are very selective of whom we choose to breed to. We want to find the place where form meets function. We like an athletic dog, with high trainability. Our dogs live in the house, and are considered members of our family. We have been involved with Rottweilers since 1986, and had our first litter in 1990. We are not a puppy mill, and only breed occasionally when we feel there is a need. We do not breed for profit (breeding is not our primary source of income). It is rare that one of our females will have more than 2 litters in their life time. As breeders we strive for the betterment of the breed and want to find the best possible homes for our progeny. When looking for your next Rottweiler make sure you ask the breeder what was their plan, goals and expectations for their current litter.
Being dog trainers first we are big fans of early environmental conditioning. In our experience puppies that are started young develop to become better overall adults in both temperament and health. Our puppies are thoroughly handled and tested from day one. At this time one of the many methods we are using is known as the "Super Dog Program" originally called the “Bio Sensor” program by the U.S Military it was geared at early neurological stimulation which they found could have lasting effects to enhance performance in dogs. We feel this gives the puppies a great head start in life before going to their new homes. We also use motivational obedience training methods starting at 4 weeks of age. It is our belief that learning to learn can never start too early and we believe it helps in the process of building better dogs!
From a conformation perspective all puppies will be tested for conformation potential by Lucy Ang (USRC licensed Rottweiler judge) of Nightshadow Rottweilers at about 7 weeks. Based on temperament and conformation puppies will be placed in order of our selection.
Unfortunately all dogs are not created equally. There are genetic factors that determine many of the qualities your future adult dog will possess. As they say “the apple does not fall far from the tree”. If you want a quality investment that stands the greatest chance of reaching your training goals (from family pet to working dog) then purchasing pups from parents of merit is the first start. Many pedigrees will possess either unproven dogs or dogs that lack health certification (usually both). Now yes theses animals are cheaper to purchase from the start but over the years will end up costing much more due to health issues and training issues. Now this is not always the case, but it is something that must be considered in making that investment into your next companion. Do your research, and make sure you understand what you are buying because “Lord willing” your pup will be with you for the next 9-12 years and starting with the right pup, from the right breeding program further enhanced by the right training program can make it a great over all experience. If you make the wrong choices then everyone suffers. If you have questions or just want to talk dogs then please give us a call and let us help you navigate through the often times confusing world of purchasing a new puppy. |
